Sample Size Estimation in the Proportional Hazards Model
نویسنده
چکیده
This power function can be used to • compute the power β with which the hypothesis test rejects a specific alternative ω1 > ω0 when the sample size is at some given value of n; • compute the sample size for which a hypothesis test would have prescribed power β to detect a specific “design” alternative ω1 > ω0; or • compute the alternative ω1 > ω0 which is rejected with prescribed power β when performing the hypothesis test with some given sample size n.

Inference for the Proportional Hazards Family under Progressive Type-II Censoring
In this paper, the well-known proportional hazards model which includes several well-known lifetime distributions such as exponential,Pareto, Lomax, Burr type XII, and so on is considered. With both Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches , we consider the estimation of parameters of interest based on progressively Type-II right censored samples. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on symmetric...
متن کاملSample size calculation for the proportional hazards model with a time-dependent covariate
The Cox proportional hazards (PH) model with time-dependent covariates (referred to as the extended PH model) has been widely used in medical and health related studies to investigate the effects of time-varying risk factors on survival. Theories and practices regarding model estimation and fitting have been well developed for the extended PH model. However, little has been done regarding sampl...
متن کاملComparison of methods for estimating the attributable risk in the context of survival analysis
BACKGROUND The attributable risk (AR) measures the proportion of disease cases that can be attributed to an exposure in the population. Several definitions and estimation methods have been proposed for survival data. METHODS Using simulations, we compared four methods for estimating AR defined in terms of survival functions: two nonparametric methods based on Kaplan-Meier's estimator, one sem...

Background & Objectives: Cox regression model is one of the statistical methods in survival analysis. The use of smoothing techniques in Cox model makes the more accurate estimates for the parameters. Fractional polynomial is one of these techniques in Cox model. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of prognostic factors on survival of patients with gastric cancer using the fractiona...
متن کاملA Quasi-Newton Algorithm for Efficient Computation of Gehan Estimates
The analysis of lifetime data is an important research area in statistics, particularly among econometricians and biostatisticians. The two most popular semi-parametric models are the proportional hazards model and the accelerated failure time (AFT) model. The proportional hazards model is computationally advantageous over virtually any other competing semi-parametric model because the ubiquito...
